3D Animation Production Process

Different production houses may have different procedures and methods in producing animations.

However, the fundamental principles are similar. Traditional animation production process can be divided into three phrases,

including the overall pre-production planning phrase, production phrase of designing and 3D modelling, and post-production phrase.

These phrases will be explained in detail.

Overall Pre-production Planning Phrase :

The pre-production phrase, including designing the characters, setting the scenes and colouring,

is vital to the production of animations. Without adequate preparation, it is impossible to produce

a high-quality animation.

Our animation pre-production workflow includes :

· Having meetings between the production team and the client

· Developing a work schedule

· Writing the outline and detailed script for the animation

· Designing the characters

· Setting the scenes

· Making the storyboard or visual board

Production Phrase of Designing and Modelling :

Having designed the characters, set the scenes and written the detailed scripts, the illustrators begin drawing

animated images, colouring and making fine adjustments.

The illustrators will also make final amendments in accordance with the clients’ comments. Eventually,

the animated images are completed.

Our animation drawing and 3D modelling workflow includes :

· Drawing animated pictures for each of the scenes

· Working with 3D modelling, skeleton rigging and skinning

· Providing texture mapping

· Using lighting

· Producing particle effects

· Producing hand-drawn effects

· Inputting BIM files

Animation Post-production Phrase :

Having drawn the still images, the animators bring the animations to life with realistic movement.

Based on the requirements stated on the scripts, the animators will add refined motions and visual effects to different layers of the images.

After that, the images will undergo the rendering process, resulting in lively and realistic animations. As a final remark, the editing team will

add sound effects and subtitles, and assemble background music.

Our animation post-production workflow includes :

· Setting the keyframes|

· Adding motions

· Adding special visual effects

· Rendering

· Dubbing and assembling background music

· Lip-syncing by voice actors or narrators

· Adding subtitles

· Outputting the animations in compliance with the client’s designated formats
